Ruins of Liptov Castle, which is the highest castle in Central Europe, has a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and whole Liptov's valley.

Starhrad castle, Big castle (Veľký hrad), Liptovský castle, Sielnica castle (all the names of the same castle) is the highest situated castle in Slovakia. It was built on the hill of Sestrč (1, 000 m) in the Chočské vrchy mountains on the site of a Slavic castle in Liptovská Sielnica. Liptovský castle belonged to several owners in the past, who gained it from the king and the others inherited it. It is said that one of the castle owner decided to find new castle owner by firing a cannon ball, and where it landed, they were search for a new owner. The cannon ball has fallen in area of village of Sielnica. Since this time Liptovský castle is also called the Sielnica castle. There is an outdoor archaeological exhibition in ruins. Best castle ruins access is from Kalameny village via two hiking trails.
